Notes on the Use of Himawari Data
- Use of Himawari data through this system is limited to non-commercial purposes (such as research, development, and education). For commercial use, please use the Japan Meteorological Business Support Center (JMBSC).
- Redistribution of data provided through this system is not permitted. If you plan to make your research results public, please consult with the GHRSST Server Help Desk in advance.
- Past data are observation data from March 20, 2015 onward. Data from Himawari-8 prior to the start of operations (02 UTC, July 7, 2015) are not guaranteed for quality by the Japan Meteorological Agency.
Terms of Use
Through the GHRSST Server, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (hereinafter referred to as “JAXA”) provides GHRSST datasets from AMSR2 onboard GCOM-W, GMI onboard the GPM Core Observatory, WindSat, VIRS onboard TRMM, and AMSR-E onboard Aqua, as well as Himawari GHRSST data produced by the Earth Observation Research Center (EORC), free of charge.
These terms specify the rules that users must follow when using this service.
Users of this service (hereinafter referred to as “Users”) are requested to read and agree to the following terms before using the service.

2. User Registration
User registration is required to use this service. Authentication by user account and password is used for logging in to this service. The user registration information required for use of this service consists of name, e-mail address, affiliated organization, department, country or region, and purpose of use.
3. Cancellation of User Registration
Users may cancel their user registration by notifying the “GHRSST Server Help Desk” described at the end of these terms by e-mail of their intention to cancel the registration.
4. Protection and Handling of Personal Information
JAXA will appropriately handle the personal information registered by users (name, e-mail address, affiliated organization, department, usage classification, and purpose of use) in accordance with laws and regulations concerning personal information, other applicable standards including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and JAXA’s separately established “Rules on the Protection of Personal Information.”

JAXA will not use the registered personal information for purposes other than the following:
- Understanding data usage status
- Conducting user surveys and questionnaires for the purpose of improving this service
- Responding to inquiries from users
JAXA also outsources part of its operations to third parties. The outsourced operations include system management, user management, and help desk operations. The contractors use the personal information necessary to perform the above operations, but do not use it for any other purpose.
5. Management of Accounts and Passwords
Users are fully responsible for the management and use of their user accounts and passwords. Please note that JAXA will not compensate users for any damages resulting from unauthorized use by third parties or similar incidents.
6. Ownership of Rights Related to Data, etc.
JAXA owns the copyrights and intellectual property rights to all data provided through this service, including products and image data.
However, users of Himawari GHRSST data must clearly indicate the data credit as “JAXA/JMA.”
When using the data, please comply with the conditions specified below.
JAXA permits commercial use of the data without concluding an intellectual property license agreement and does not collect royalties.
Please note that, in accordance with the policy of the Japan Meteorological Agency, use of Himawari GHRSST data is limited to non-commercial purposes (such as research and education), and redistribution is not permitted.

7. Suspension of Use of the Service
JAXA may cancel a user’s registration if the user violates these terms or if JAXA otherwise determines that the user is unsuitable as a user.
8. Changes to This Service
JAXA may, as appropriate, change the operating conditions, service content, terms, and other aspects of this service. If these terms are changed, JAXA will post the changes on this service and provide notice. When users first use this service after the changed terms have been posted, they are requested to review the changed terms before using the service.
9. Termination of This Service
JAXA may terminate this service at its own discretion.
In such cases, JAXA will provide prior notice of the termination of this service to users by an appropriate method.
10. Reporting of Results
When publishing papers, reports, or other materials using products, image data, or other data provided through this service, please include a statement such as the following.
“本論文にて使用したデータセット（AMSR2、AMSR-3、GMI、AMSR-E、WindSat、およびVIRSの各データ）は、宇宙航空研究開発機構 GHRSST Serverより提供を受けました。”
“本論文にて使用した「（ひまわり8号から作成した）XXXに関する研究プロダクトは、宇宙航空研究開発機構 GHRSST Serverより提供を受けました。”
“GHRSST Dataset (AMSR2, AMSR-3, GMI, AMSR-E, WindSat, VIRS data) were supplied by the GHRSST Server, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency.”
“Research product of XXX (produced from Himawari-8) that was used in this paper' was supplied by the GHRSST Server, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency”
The GHRSST Server Help Desk collects related publications.
For papers, reports, or other materials that use data provided through this service, please send offprints or copies to the “GHRSST Server Help Desk” described at the end of these terms. Your cooperation would be appreciated.
There is no specified method for sending offprints or copies; please use any available method, such as postal mail or e-mail attachment.
11. Disclaimer
Although the utmost care is taken in all aspects of this service, JAXA makes no warranty whatsoever as to the safety of the service or the reliability of the information posted,
and shall not be liable for any damages incurred by users as a result of using this service or the information provided through this service.
JAXA may modify or delete information on this service, or suspend or discontinue the operation of this service itself,
and shall not be liable for any damages incurred by users as a result of such actions. Thank you for your understanding.
